Signing the commitment letter indicates that your company will work to set a science-based emission reduction target.
After submitting your commitment letter, your company will be recognized as “Committed” on our vip亚博
as well as on our partner websites at We Mean Business and CDP. Companies who are engaging in the UN Global Compact will also be recognized on the UN Global Compact website.
If your company already has an emissions reduction target, the commitment letter confirms your interest in having your existing target independently verified against a set of criteria developed by the 亚搏国际网址
*Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) (non-subsidiary, independent companies which employ fewer than 500 employees), are invited to submit the Target Setting Letter for SMEs, instead of the Standard Commitment Letter. This option allows SMEs to bypass the initial step of committing to set a science-based target, and immediately set a target consistent with one of the SBTi’s predefined target options. From July 15th 2020, this will be the only route open for SMEs. Learn more on our FAQ page.
The SBTi reserves the right to carry out due diligence reviews before accepting signed commitment letters. This applies to all SBTi commitments including those received through the Business Ambition for 1.5°C campaign.
Step 2 : Develop a target
Once your company has signed the commitment letter you will have up to 24 months to get your target(s) validated and published
For the best chance of approval you should ensure that your target meets the SBTi’s target setting criteria. The latest SBTi Criteria (4.1) offers companies two temperature goal options, 1.5 degrees and well-below 2 degrees for scope 1 and scope 2 emissions reductions, and your submission should meet the criteria for the goal specified in your Target Submission Form. Target submissions in line with SBTi Criteria (4.0)will be accepted until July 15th, 2020.

All target submissions are processed under our paid target validation service, which includes in-depth feedback from SBTi technical reviewers. Please see our FAQs (Section E) for more details on this service, including eligibility for fee exemptions.
The target validation service costs USD 4950 (+ applicable VAT), which includes up to two target assessments. Subsequent resubmissions cost USD 2490 (+ applicable VAT) per submission.
Please note that resubmissions only include one target assessment. The resubmission price is available to companies that 1) have submitted at least once using the paid target validation service, 2) already have approved targets but need to update them, and/or 3) were approved through a preliminary validation under the free service.

Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) should submit their targets using the SBTi’s streamlined target-setting route for SMEs. If your company is a non-subsidiary, independent company which employs fewer than 500 employees, please complete the ‘Target Setting Letter for SMEs’ and submit a PDF version of the form via email to [email protected]. The target validation fee for SMEs is USD 1,000 (+ applicable VAT) – a reduced fee compared to the standard of USD 4950 (+ applicable VAT).
For non-SMEs: On confirmation that your target meets theSBTi criteria, your company and its target will be showcased on the SBTi website and in other communications and you will be able to use the SBTi logo on your website and in company communications. You will be sent a communications welcome pack and will be able to liaise with a member of the SBTi communications team.
The SBTi will publish targets on our website one month after target approval, unless otherwise instructed by the company. Companies must make targets public within six months of target approval. Approved targets that have not been communicated within six months will need to be revalidated before being made public to ensure they are in line with the latest SBTi criteria.
For SMEs: Targets submitted through the dedicated route for SMEs will be automatically approved and posted to the SBTi website, pending due diligence review and payment. Companies will be sent a communications welcome pack and will be able to use the SBTi logo on their website and in company communications.
Upgrade your target
In response to the special report from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) on 1.5°Creleased in 2018, the SBTi introduced new criteria and resources to enable companies to set targets consistent with the most ambitious aim of the Paris Agreement, to limit global warming to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels. The criteria also allow targets in line with limiting warming to well-below 2°C.
We invite companies to voluntarily boost the ambition level of their current targets and align your scopes 1 & 2 ambition with a 1.5°C or well-below 2°C pathway. A straightforward and cost-free option is available for companies to upgrade their ambition if their targets are currently 2°C or well-below 2°C aligned. Companies can use this cost-free option if they meet the following conditions:
Base year and target year of the updated target remains unchanged;
Assumptions used to model the original target remain valid (e.g. significance thresholds, boundary, growth projections, etc.)
